The last bidder for the power stations in Kladno and Zlín, belonging to the Swiss company Alpiq, has refused to pay the 10.5 billion CZK price demanded by the Swiss. Its final bid is some 2 billion less, and it has withdrawn from the bidding.

The Czech Republic is to have another DIY chain, the number of stores will exceed that of Bauhaus and the current Czech number two Hornbach. Billionaire Jiří Šimáně intends to take a slice of the revenues of all the main players.

Tatra from Kopřivnice is back in profit with new owners and under new management. For the period from 15th March to 30th June it achieved operating profit of almost 84 million CZK, with revenue exceeding 762 million CZK.

Due to high demand from abroad, bus manufacturer Iveco is to introduce Saturday working in its Czech factory. Whereas the production of commercial vehicles has fallen in the Czech Republic, the output of buses is the same as in 1985.

Montáže Přerov last year returned to profit. Revenue grew by 20% from 275.3 million CZK to 331.2 million and net profit, following a 16 million loss in 2011, grew to 12 million CZK. Most revenues were generated by exports.
